Up to the present nobody has been able
to create a lure which would be absolutely productive for
all species in all kind of situations. But we do have
lures which have proved their productivity far more often
than the others. A superb example of such a lure is
Räsänen.
Räsänen is and ideal spoon. It is not very slim, but not
too wide either, not very heavy but heavy enough to make
casting it an easy job. It is easily controllable in the
water, even a beginner will be able to manoeuvre it
without difficulty.
Räsänen offers you a large variety of colors and sizes,
among which you will certainly find a good alternative to
any fishing situation.
Räsänen for Casting
Räsänen is perhaps at its best in
casting. For trout and rainbow trout the ideal size is 4-6
cm, for salmon the legendary Räsänen Seven and for pike 9
cm.
Räsänen works well both in current and still water. At
rapids all you need to do is to cast the lure right a
across the river, raise the rod tip up and then let the
lure travel downstream. The strong current gives you
Räsänen its enticing movement even if you don’t start
reeling in at first. In still water you can add to the
temptation by letting the lure first sink close to the
bottom and start retrieving slowly enough to allow the
lure to stay deep. The fish often prefer to stay near the
bottom. If you let the lure stop a few times during the
retrieving a fish swimming after the lure may get provoked
at attack.
Räsänen for Trolling
Räsänen works well in trolling, too.
The lighter version 70/10 is the right tool for this type
of fishing. Many a pike, pike perch, trout and salmon have
chosen Räsänen as their last meal. Your trolling speed
should be rather low. If you are using a model specially
meant for trolling, a diving sinker will make the lure
sink deep enough.
Räsänen for Jigging
Räsänen has given good results in pike
perch fishing, too. The right size of lure will be a 5 cm
Räsänen, which you should allow to sink deep letting it
bounce along the bottom.
Hold the rod to the line. Once your Räsänen reaches the
bottom turn the reel handle quickly two or three rounds,
which makes the spoon bounce up. Then stop till it touches
the bottom and repeat the same. Your pals in the same boat
may be surprised at the results.
Räsänen for Rainbow Trout
Some fishermen use Räsänen in the
winter as a jig for rainbow trout. The two smallest sizes
of Räsänen are ideal tools for this purpose.
Fishing with Räsänen you can use various kind of methods,
the main thing is that the movement of the lure is
something that arouses the attention of the fish. Your
line can be pretty strong, up to 0,33 mm. A bait is not
necessary, but you can, if it makes you feel more
confident, us e maggots, a piece of shrimp or a scented
dough ball type of bait. However, the movement of the lure
may suffer from a sizeable bait. The sizes 7 and 9 cm are
very effective pike jigs, the sizes 4-5 cm are quite a
temptation for the pike perch!
Räsänen for Arctic Char
You can turn a Räsänen into a good jig
for arctic char by taking off the hook and replacing it by
a 10 cm leader line with a single hook at the end. You can
use a Räsänen up to 7 cm in size. When jigging for arctic
char, an essential precondition of success is good
visibility of the lure. Räsänen hovers and flutters down
very invitingly. When the fish approaches you should be
careful and avoid moving the lure too much. You coluld for
instance just let it quiver a little. It is best to lie
down on the ice and look through the hole to see what
exactly is happening under the water. For arctic char you
need a live bait, like a number of maggots, a worm or
shrimp. |
