A
cast fishing tour for pike to the lakes and ponds as well
as river pools usually rewards you with a pretty good take,
even if you don’t take it so seriously but relax for a
change. You can listen to the birds singing and enjoy the
scent of flowers around you on a peaceful July evening.
Soon you’ll hear a splash and the line starts running
out from the spool!
The
best areas for pike fishing in Finland are the vegetated
shores of lakes. You need a boat, a spoon to cast – and
that’s about all to guarantee a successful trip.
A
great number of sports fishermen regard Räsänen 70/20 as
the best pike casting lure for the Finnish waterways. It
casts well and moves in a seductive way. Using it you
can’t evade the pike.
Since
the pike as a rule finds itself a place where it cannot be
seen, you should carefully search the edges of vegetated
areas and also open spots within those areas. Then you
will have to resort to the weedless models.
Thanks
to the weedless versions you won’t need to do any
hay-making but can spend all your precious time on fishing.
Weedless Räsänen’s ( 70/10 and 50/11 ) protected hooks
are rigidly fastened, whereas in the other model ( 70/20)
the whiskers are fastened to the freely moving hook-part.
One
feature common for both of them is that they very seldom
get stuck in anything other than the pike’s jaws.
Lippa-Räsänen
has proved to bring good takes on wide open waters. On
smaller lakes the smaller size easily seduces the pike.
The
casting models of Kuusamo Professor are also proven pike
fishing tools. In the spring, when the pike stay near the
shores, the legendary Professor is very popular. It is
easy to handle in shallow water. Casting from the boat all
its models are heavy enough to guarantee success.
Professor also comes in weedless versions.
The
really Large Ones are Found in Wide Open Areas
After
the first half of June the big pike leave the shores and
move to deeper waters where there is more space around
them. But even out there they are within reach of the
persistent fisherman.
The
largest model of Kuusamo Professor is a dependable lure on
open waters. Not only the large pike, but also smaller
ones around 1-2kg accept it readily. Also the second
largest version – size 130mm/44g - fishes well in these
kinds of surroundings.
Use
your lures without sinkers or with Kuusamo diving sinkers
along the edges of drops or close to a bit shallower
(2-7m) areas in otherwise deeper areas. In July you can
catch pretty sizeable pikes in this kind of places, and
even in the middle of the day. It might be wise to carry
with you a few smaller Räsänens and Professors as
alternative tools.
When
fishing for pike on lakes, ponds or pools in rivers
don’t ever forget to take with you some spinners, too.
Muovikala-Lippa
is always a reliable pike killer and so is Kaksoislippa.
On smaller lakes smaller lures may be a bit more
productive. Balance-Lippa, Kuusamo-Lippa and Loimu-Lippa
belong to the favorites of small pike. Spinners are
available in weedless versions, too.
